Παρασκευή 9 Οκτωβρίου στην Αθήνα κάπου το χάνεις ή χάνεσαι στο τι μπορεί να σου προσφέρει πέρα από άπειρο κόσμο να «αλληλοψάχνεται».
Πολύ καλή αφορμή ήταν το live στο An Club, σε διοργάνωση της Beat Elite, έτσι να πας σε μια συναυλία που σίγουρα από τα ονόματα και μόνο σου έφτιαχνε την διάθεση να ακούσεις Χιπ Χοπ, από τον «παππού» του είδους Jeru The Damaja, τους Beatnuts και τον ΛΕΞ, που έχει κάνει το χαμός στο ελληνικό στερέωμα.
Η ώρα έφτασε, στο An Club από την αρχή που μπήκε ο Έλληνας MC είχε γεμίσει. Ο κόσμος είχε αρκετά χαμηλό μέσο όρο ηλικίας, παιδιά γεννημένα μετά το πρώτο EP του Jeru ή κάπου εκεί γύρω. Σε έκανε να σκέπτεσαι σίγουρα ότι έχει μέλλον το χιπ χοπ στην Ελλάδα.
Ξεκινάει ο ΛΕΞ και πραγματικά γύρω στα τριάντα άτομα φώναζαν όλα του τα κομμάτια από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος. Ο ίδιος σε κέφια με μια πολύ καλή εμφάνιση, με acapella συνέχειες πάνω στα κομμάτια του και ο κόσμος να τον χειροκροτεί με ενθουσιασμό. Δεν κούρασε ούτε λίγο και έδωσε καλό χιπ χοπ στην Αθήνα από τα βόρεια.
Απρόσμενα δεύτερος στην σειρά αποκαλύπτεται ο Jeru, έτσι χαμογελαστός και έτοιμος να αρχίσει το πείραγμα από την πρώτη στιγμή στο αθηναϊκό κοινό. Ένας τύπος από την γαλαρία, φώναξε καμιά δεκαριά φορές “grandpa” για να τον πειράξει, αλλά απτόητος ο παππούς “πείραξε” αυτός τελικά, όλους όσους ήταν στην οπτική του εμβέλεια.
Τώρα από μουσικής πλευράς, δεν έδωσε τον καλύτερο του εαυτό. Αν δεν κάνω λάθος , μόνο δύο κομμάτια πρέπει να είπε ολόκληρα χωρίς να ζητήσει στον DJ να του τα κλείσει για να πει κάτι που τον ενόχλησε εκείνη την στιγμή.
Σίγουρα πολύ δυνατός rapper με πολλά skills, αλλά και λίγο παράξενος. Επίσης αρκετά διαδραστικός με το κοινό, κάτι που ανέβασε το live και δημιούργησε θετικά vibes για τους παρευρισκόμενους. Όπως και να έχει μεγάλο respect στον ζωντανό θρύλο του Χιπ-Χοπ.
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί σε κάποιο σημείο της παράστασης ο Jeru ανέφερε όλους τους αστέρες του χιπ χοπ που έφυγαν νωρίς, και ξαφνικά ο κόσμος από κάτω άρχισε να φωνάζει ρυθμικά και δυνατά «Killah P!», το καλλιτεχνικό όνομα του Παύλου Φύσσα. Σταμάτησε το κομμάτι και ρώτησε για αυτόν και μετά αναφώνησε «R.I.P. Killah P».

You grew up in Brooklyn and from what we already know you started with hip hop from a very young age. What was it that really got you into rap? Did you have someone as a mentor maybe?
Not really it was just me being a kid and wanting to be cool like the older kids. But as I got older I would have rhyme ciphers with a lot of Dope Mcs, Like Gza, Rza and Blahzay to name a few.
Which moment do you consider as the best and most influential in your career? Was it perhaps the release of The Sun Rises in the East or another else?
Hearing Come Clean blasting out of car stereo systems was one of the best moments of my life.
What did you gain from your collaboration with Guru and DJ Premier?
Honestly… everything!
You have collaborated with a number of other well known producers, too… Who of them were your favorites and whose beats would you consider ideal according to your tastes?
I liked them all but me and Premier have a special chemistry. So I have to go with Premier.
Did you have a specific rapper as someone to look up to throughout all these years?
No, not really but Kool G Rap is my favorite.
Which one of your tracks/songs would you consider as your favorite?
Men At Work, Kool G Rap and Polo.
Last year you had the release of The Hammer EP, a work that went really well and came seven years after your former release. It’s been quite a long time since then. Are we to expect something more in the years to come?
Yes get ready for a whole new movement and a lot of projects from Jeru the Damaja.
What was it that made you found your own label, Ashenafi Records, and later release all of your productions there?
I am an independent type of personality. I love to take the chances to do and discover things on my own. I love to learn and the best way to learn is to do it.
Do you believe that you have accomplished your dreams in the music world or do you have further goals?
I always have new and bigger goals. I have many things I want to accomplish and this is just the beginning.
How do you find the evolution of the hip hop scene? Do you think that as a genre it has been musically exhausted? Would you like to name us a couple of rather new names that you would possibly distinguish as worthy to listen to?
I really don’t pay too much attention as I am evolving with the scene in my own way. Evolution is different for depending on what your needs and wants are in life.
What kind of music do you listen at home when you chill? Is it always hip hop? Well, how do you spend your free time in general apart from listening to music?
Jodeci, Jill Scott, Curtis Mayfield to name a few. I do the same things other people do, I like movies reading and learning new things.
How do you picture yourself in 15 years from now?
As emperor of the known and unknown universe!!!!!
How would you describe your live shows?
Pure Madness!
